We see a lot of campers start their foray into an RV by beginning with a pop-up camper. It is among one of the most affordable recreational vehicles available today. They are light weight and can easily be towed by a full size car or small pickup truck. A pop-up camper can be considered the perfect recreational vehicle for those who have a small budget or who would prefer to try before they buy a full size RV. The purchase price is reasonable, they are easy to tow, and they provide much of that RV feel without the big investment of a full sized rig.
Pop-ups can comfortably sleep four people; more if some of those people are small children. Most pop-ups are made with two sides that extend for sleeping quarters. They have a small space for eating, cooking, and some storage. Some come equipped with a cassette toilet and sink though you need to look to the higher end models to find this feature. Most people plan on using the campground facilities and some keep a porta-potty with them for those times they don’t want to walk to the bathrooms at night.
Some pop-ups now offer a slide out to provide more space for its inhabitants. This is also a nice feature to have and makes it seem all the more like a standard RV. Your pop-up is a safe and comfortable camping vehicle with its sturdy canvas sides and metal roof to keep the rain out.
They are easier to back up due to their smaller profile and lower roof line. You can see more and it doesn’t take a lot of effort to pull forward and re-align yourself if you get off course. The prices can vary quite a bit, depending of features, age, and the profit added in by the dealer. You should look at several in your area before you purchase just to be sure you are getting the best deal. Some people prefer to rent a pop-up once or twice before they buy. Doing so will give you a true hands-on experience to decide if you’re going to like it enough to invest in one of your own.
They really are a great way to start camping and many people share fond stories with us from their childhood of camping in the family pop-up. We hope you’ll camp in whatever makes you happy and we hope you’ll camp with us. Make your reservation early and we look forward to meeting you in person.
