18 May Making Memories: Family Fun & Campfire Moments at Maple Lakes
There’s something magical about May at Maple Lakes — pwarm sunshine, fresh green leaves, and that first big chance to really settle into the camping season. Families are arriving, laughter fills the air, and it’s the perfect month to slow down, unplug, and reconnect with the people who matter most.
Whether you’re building a new tradition or keeping a classic one alive, here are some easy ways to create unforgettable memories this May.
🏕️ Classic Camping = Quality Family Time
There’s no better backdrop for family bonding than a cozy campsite. No screens. No distractions. Just fishing poles, crackling campfires, and time to really talk (or laugh, or sing, or snack!).
- Evening nature walk with glow sticks
- Picnic lunch at the fishing lake (don’t forget the juice boxes!)
- Family campfire storytelling—everyone takes turns adding to the tale
- DIY “Campground Olympics”: relay races, water balloon tosses, planned activities or s’mores competitions
🎣 Adventures for All Ages
At Maple Lakes, there’s something for every age and interest:
- Fishing fun in our stocked lake
- Bug hunts and nature trail exploring
- Cozy nights around the fire with grandparents and grandkids
🍌 Campfire Recipe: Peanut Butter Banana Boats
What You Need:
- Bananas (leave the peel on)
- Mini marshmallows
- Chocolate chips
- Peanut butter
Instructions:
- Slice the banana lengthwise (don’t cut all the way through).
- Fill with marshmallows, chocolate chips, and peanut butter. (Did you know that there is such a thing as CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER???)
- Wrap in foil and place in the campfire coals for 5–7 minutes.
- Unwrap carefully and enjoy warm with a spoon.
🛶 Keep It Simple—Make It Meaningful
Sometimes it’s the small things that stick with us:
- Teach your kids how to build their first campfire
- Let them help pitch the tent or prep dinner
- Share stories from your childhood camping days
- Snap a few candid photos to look back on later
🗓️ Memorial Day Weekend = Big Fun Ahead
Memorial Day Weekend is one of our most popular times of the season—don’t miss out!
Expect:
- Family crafts and themed games
- Community fun by the fire
- Evenings under the stars
